Day 1

Nyungwe Forest National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali airport you will met and greeted by one of our representatives and transferred to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, we will make stops at local markets and the the palace of Rwanda’s former king. Keep an eye out for the green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the area surrounding the forest.

Day 2

Nyungwe Forest National Park

Today you will go on a guided nature walk in the forest in search of a variety of animals and birds, including the Rwenzori turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. You might even come across a large group of colobus monkeys. Sometimes there may be as many as 400 in a group! Alternatively, you can go chimp tracking. You will eat a picnic lunch and return to the camp in the late afternoon.

Day 3

Kigali

Eat breakfast and then transfer back to Kigali. Along the way you will stop in Butare to visit the botanical gardens and a cultural museum. Arrive in Kigali in time for lunch and then drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Take in the views of the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known!

Day 4

Volcanoes National Park

Today you will transfer to Kinigi Park headquarters to track gorillas in Parc National des Volcans. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills and swamps can be arduous and tiring. The overall journey can take up to eight hours, but coming face to face with these great primates makes it well worth the effort!

Day 5

Volcanoes National Park – Kigali

Have breakfast and then head to the park office a for briefing on your upcoming gorilla trek. This thrilling journey takes you through the refined foothills of the Virungas and provides inspiring views in all directions. When the trail enters the national park, trekkers become engrossed in the strange closeness of the rainforest, which is alive with the calls of colorful birds and the chattering of the rare golden monkey. Through the gaps in the forest canopy, the marvelous mountain peaks can be sighted. Gorilla trekking is a quite strenuous but worthwhile venture in order to encounter these gentle giants. Spend time watching the gorillas feeding their young ones, brushing one another and resting.
